South West USA
Spring 2017 we added a road trip from Vegas to Phoenix. Was meeting a friend afterwards for Final Four. First stop was Springdale. We did a few day hikes in Zion. Distinctly recall seeing families hike the exposed section of angels landing in the rain without proper footwear, scary. Was the wrong time of year for the narrows which we’ll try and head back for. this.
Next stop was Bryce Canyon, particularly gorgeous with a dusting of snow, although not the same volume of hiking as Zion.
We drove up through capital reef national park. This is classic road trip territory, a beautiful drive.
We visited the Moab region, including Arches and Canyonlands national park. Canyonlands deserved more time than we were able to give it.
Finally had a short stay at Amangiri. An architectural marvel. One of those hotels you see a picture of and instantly want to visit. Thankfully we stayed before the pricing has become exorbitant.
On our way to Phoenix we drove to the south rim of grand canyon for a short visit. Again a destination we will return to.
We just got a flavour of SW USA on this trip. A region often overlooked by Canadians for further afield locals, but the geography here is stunning and unique. Will be back for some canyoneering/climbing/hiking
